Coalition Coordinator for Housing Justice

Based on: Reading, Allentown, or Philadelphia  PA

$55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year | Full-time

About the position:

​

Make the Road PA (MRPA) seeks a full-time Coalition Coordinator to build, organize and lead a Pennsylvania Housing Justice Coalition. The Housing Coalition Coordinator will report to MRPA’s Organizing Director.

​

Job Responsibilities:

​

Coalition Organizing and Management:

​

  • Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with existing campaign partners, seek new campaign partners and allies, and engage community members, elected officials, stakeholders, and leaders in the Housing Justice space

  • Create a tenant rights guide/manual with workshops that can be replicated statewide

  • Run statewide and regional convenings on Housing Justice led by impacted renters and small homeowners.

  • Support and develop the leadership of renters and small homeowners of Make the Road PA and of coalition partners

  • Support participatory research to survey and launch grassroots Statewide Report on Housin

 

Overseeing Base-Building for Housing justice:

​

  • Support Make the Road organizers build a strong base of tenants and small landlords that attend Housing Committees in Reading, Philadelphia, and Allentown.

  • Support Organizing Team to help renters apply for Rent Relief, Eviction prevention and Alternative Dispute Resolution advocacy, and other housing programs that help them engage them in organizing work

  • Provide support, training, and resources to coalition partners as necessary to build a base in the different cities our partners work in.

 

Campaign Planning and Execution:

​

  • Lead the development of strategic housing justice campaigns

  • Develop the capacity of table partners to participate effectively in campaigns

  • Build Organizing Capacity to organize against bad landlords

  • Plan and execute meetings, events, actions, or other strategic activities that further the goals of the campaigns

  • Monitor and/or participate in governmental and public meetings and processes related to PA housing justice campaigns

 

Communications:

​

  • Work with the key Housing Justice coalition partners, Communications Consultant, and Organizing Team to build an issue-based campaign and electoral campaign narrative and promote events, resources, and actions

  • Support and develop campaign spokespeople based on renters and small homeowners

  • Develop coalition partners to act as Housing Justice spokespeople

  • Speak at events to highlight housing justice campaigns where appropriate

  • Maintain various campaign Every Action lists and data systems to facilitate campaign outreach

 

Fundraising and Administration

​

  • In coordination with the Organizing Director, help identify funding opportunities and help build relationships with funders/program officers

  • Participate in grant writing and reporting where appropriate

  • Maintain organized digital and physical campaign records

  • Work closely with the Manager of Policy and Advocacy to log any lobbying activities

 

Qualifications:

​

  • 3-5 years of experience in issue campaign, preferably housing justice and organizing work, including at least 2 years of direct advocacy/lobbying in government

  • Coalition building experience or ability to work with state-based organizations and teach impacted community members how to advocate and build relationships with elected officials

  • Ability to design campaign plans and implement action plans meant to build grassroots leadership and strong relationships

  • Necessary organization and leadership to work on a variety of campaigns within a coalition of diverse partners.

 

Requirements:

​

  • Must be eligible to work in the US.

  • Be fully bilingual in Spanish and English.

  • A car and driver’s license.

  • Required to be fully vaccinated with an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine prior first day of employment.

  • Be open to working some evenings and weekends.

 

Location:

​

This person can be based in Philadelphia, Allentown, or Reading, PA, but will need to travel on a regular basis state-wide.
