More choice, less joy? A thought I had about my old Game Boy.

I was scrolling through my phone last night, overwhelmed by all the streaming services and massive new games, and a strange thought hit me: Why, with endless options, do I sometimes feel like I have nothing to play?

It got me thinking about my childhood. I only had a handful of game cartridges for my Game Boy. I remember the plastic feel of each one, and how I'd blow on the contacts if

they didn't work. Each game was a treasure, a world I explored for months until I knew every secret. There was no "what's next?"; there was only the game in my hands.

Ironically, my passion project, the Retro Games Nexus site, now offers hundreds of these old games in one place. I built a library of infinite choice to try and recapture a feeling that came from having almost none.

But then I realized—the magic isn't in the quantity. It's in the focus. Clicking on a single game, hearing that simple 8-bit music, and letting the rest of the world's noise fade away. That's the feeling.

Maybe what we're all nostalgic for isn't just the games, but the quiet

focus that came with them.

Does anyone else feel this way sometimes?

I mean, having limited choices back then somehow made each game feel more special, right? Kinda like how "anime crusaders " players get excited for new codes, even if there's a level 5+ requirement.
