Pre-OSSD preparation courses – are they useful?
For students whose English isn't strong enough yet or who missed some foundational subjects, are pre-OSSD bridging/preparation programs actually helpful before starting the real Ontario credits? Or is it better to just jump into regular courses and figure it out?

From what I've observed, pre-OSSD programs can make a big difference, especially if your previous schooling doesn't align perfectly with Ontario standards or if English/academic skills need a boost. They usually focus on academic English, study skills, math/ science refreshers, and getting used to the Canadian curriculum style – which helps avoid failing early credits and wasting time/money. I know a few international students who did a prep semester first and then moved smoothly into full OSSD courses with much better grades. Toronto Imperial School has a dedicated Pre-OSSD Program designed exactly for that – it's structured to build the necessary foundation so you're ready for Grade 11/12 level work. More info on what it covers and how it transitions into the main diploma here: https://torontoimperial.com/pre-ossd-program/ It's not mandatory for everyone, but if you're worried about struggling with the pace or language, it's a smart step. Most who skipped it ended up repeating courses anyway.
